Neighborhood centers celebrate the local community – Bundaberg Now

Del Styles and Lesley Behan enjoy their time at the Childers Neighborhood Center.

Local neighborhood centers play a central role in the community, providing user-friendly, localized access to individual, family and community services.

The doors of Childers Neighborhood Center and Gin Gin Neighborhood Center are open to community groups, friends and families who offer a range of services.

In recognition of Neighborhood Centers Week May 9-15, community members can take the opportunity to check out what’s going on at the centers and learn about upcoming programs.

Spokesperson for the Council’s Community Services portfolio, Cr Tracey McPhee, said this year’s Neighborhood Centers Week was themed around building local community resilience.

She said Childers Neighborhood Center and Gin Gin Neighborhood Center were centers that provided services to a wide range of the community, including people who were marginalized or had significant needs.

“Neighborhood Centers are friendly, informal places where community members can participate in a variety of activities at minimal cost,” said Cr McPhee.

“Childers and the Gin Gin neighborhood centers are two important places that reflect the needs and aspirations of our community. »

Activities for adults and children are as diverse as the communities served by each center and can include workshops, talks, exhibits and social events in areas such as arts and crafts, health and fitness, business and finance, IT and IT and personal development.

The Childers and Gin Gin Neighborhood Centers are jointly funded by the Bundaberg Regional Council and the Department of Communities, Disability and Elderly Services, and offer a wide range of support services.

At the Childers Neighborhood Center, monthly activities include arts and crafts groups, card games, and use of a free public computer kiosk.
