Local Government Minister Launches “Mera Shehar-Mera Maan” Campaign for 12 Punjab Class 1 Municipalities and ULBs

CHANDIGARH/SAS NAGAR: The Minister of Local Government of Punjab, Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar today launched the “Mera Shehar-Mera Maan” campaign which will cover 12 Municipalities and Class 1 Urban Local Bodies in Punjab to make them clean and ecological.

Dr. Nijjar launched the campaign during a program in the SAS Nagar district, after which he inspected the cleanliness of sewers, roads and parks.

Addressing the gathering during this program, Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that the ‘Mera Shehar-Mera Maan’ campaign aims to make our cities clean and green where cleanliness is a way of life. The main objective of this campaign is to raise awareness on various aspects of sanitation as well as to provide a better standard of living for residents.

Dr Nijjar said community participation is essential to the success of any campaign. He indicated that within the framework of this campaign, various activities involving all the actors of each ULB will be carried out every Friday in one or two districts. He said that the officials will visit the neighborhoods in advance according to the schedule to implement these activities so that the required manpower as well as the equipment will be available on the scheduled day to carry out the activities to be carried out in as part of this campaign.

Dr. Nijjar said neighborhood residents, community leaders, religious leaders, NGOs/socio-religious organizations and local political leaders will also be involved to make Mera Shehar-Mera Maan a community-based campaign. He further stated that ULBs should also encourage the formation of neighborhood committees/Mohalla committees to ensure effective cleanliness of their neighborhoods/Mohallas on a regular basis.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Mr. Kulwant Singh appealed to the people that the Punjab government headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan launch this “Mera Shehar-Mera Maan” campaign to uplift the standard of living of the population and make cleanliness a part of daily life. He called on the public to cooperate and support the administration and the government so that the dream of making Punjab colorful again can come true.

On this occasion, a play was also presented by the school children on the theme of embracing cleanliness and stopping the use of plastic, in the presence of the constituency MP, Mr. Kulwant Singh. Mayor of Municipal Corporation Mr. Amarjit Singh Sidhu was also present.
