Walton Community Council is set to take ownership of Hindhead Knoll open space and play area in Walnut Tree.

This is part of the MK Council’s proposals to give more powers to local authorities.

The transfer will allow Walton Community Council to provide better leisure and community activities to local residents for generations to come.

Hindhead Knoll is a popular space for Walton residents and is known for the Community Council’s popular annual Summer Fayre, Christmas celebration and various community engagement events.

The Council hopes that by putting more community facilities in the hands of the people and organizations that use them, it will encourage greater investment as well as continued and sustainable use.

MK Council has worked closely with Walton Community Council on this area, which now includes a refurbished play area, lampposts, new level crossings, picnic tables, notice board, raised shrub bed, the small free library and a shelter for events.

Additional funds to improve the area will also be made available through developer contributions, as the site is near a new development.

Cabinet Member responsible for the transfer of assets, Cllr Jane Carr said: “We are delighted to hand over yet another much-loved local facility to the Walton Community Council. Working alongside local people, the Community Council will have the power over what happens in Hindhead Knoll as they are best placed to meet the needs of their community. »

“Walton Community Council Council Manager Lesley Sung said: ‘We are delighted to take possession of the land at Hindhead Knoll. This is an important area for us and central to our key strategic goal of improving our community. This area will allow us to provide exciting new facilities and events for all ages that will bring our community even closer together.

Other community spaces to be passed on to local community councils include Sycamore House and Sycamore Hall on Drayton Road, Water Eaton in Bletchley.

Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council intends to vacate its offices at Bletchley Library and move teams of officers to Sycamore House this year.
