Local community colleges are pushing students for the vaccine and have found a great place for a lot – free cash and textbooks.

The West Hills Community College District is offering $ 250 to fully immunized students. Students must be enrolled in classes and upload their proof of vaccination to the West Hills Safe app, which measures contact tracing and daily testing for Covid-19, by November 1.

West Hills has partnered with Aria Health and the Kings County Department of Public Health for on-campus vaccination clinics, which will be open to students, employees and the public.

Fresno City College is also one of the community colleges offering incentives. It offers students $ 250 bookstore vouchers to use on anything from textbooks and school supplies to food or clothing.

Reedley College is offering a free cafeteria meal to students who receive their first dose. For their second dose, students receive a free manual. The book is not capped at a certain value, so it is up to the student to choose which book to receive for free. They must be an active student and show proof of vaccination.

Clovis Community College offers a similar program to Fresno City College. Clovis Community will be offering $ 150 gift cards to the bookstore for fully immunized students. While the details are being finalized, students will receive an email in the coming days on how to collect the gift cards.

The bookstore cash allowance allows students to get their already expensive textbooks at a reduced rate.

Stephanie Babb, director of marketing and communications at Clovis Communty College, said the money came from federal CARES funds. This incentive will encourage students to get vaccinated and as people return to school in person, gift cards are a way to encourage safety on campus.

Madera Community College will also be offering an immunization clinic on Wednesday, August 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., providing students who get vaccinated with a $ 150 Amazon gift card. They must present proof of vaccination by September 15th. If they recommend a family member or friend, both parties will receive a $ 25 gift card.

The money for the Madera Community College program also comes from federal CARES funds.
