Grants to support local community groups

Community groups and organizations in Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay will share nearly $500,000 in grants through the West Gate Neighborhood Fund.

A total of 28 grants have been awarded for local initiatives as part of the Labor Government’s $10 million fund to ensure that the benefits of the West Gate Tunnel project can begin to trickle down to the local community.

Grants of up to $100,000 have been awarded for festivals, events, exhibits and improvements to community, sports and recreation facilities run by non-profit community groups and organizations, to benefit Hobsons areas Bay and Maribyrnong Town Council.

Recipients include the Brooklyn Tennis Club which will invest in new tennis court posts and nets, Italian social club Altona to upgrade two bocce courts and add a new one, and Friends of Community Tributaries to expand the Brooklyn Community Garden.

Williamstown MP Melissa Horne said the grants provided an opportunity for the community to come together.

“This is great news for our local community as we see more open spaces, community events, and more opportunities for us to come together and celebrate what’s great in our neighborhood,” he said. she declared.

“Congratulations to all the recipients and I look forward to seeing these ideas come to fruition with the support of Andrews’ Labor Government.”
