GI beacon to help local community go global, says MoS MSME

New Delhi, Jan 29 (KNN) The Minister of State in charge of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, underscored the importance and relevance of the GI label. He said the label will help the local community go global.

The Minister was addressing the International Virtual Conference on Promoting Exports of GI Products.

“There is a need to focus on areas that are resource rich but lack adequate market connectivity,” said BB Swain, Secretary of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The National Institute of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in partnership with Palladium Consulting India Private Limited (PCIPL), is organizing an international virtual conference on export promotion of GI products, Mizoram.

The conference is being held virtually from January 29 to February 5, 2022.

It is sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India under its International Cooperation (IC) program.

Mizoram’s most exquisite and intricate hand-woven textile, Tawlhlohpuan and Mizo Puanchei shawl or wrap, has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) label by the Government of India’s Department for the Promotion of Industry and internal trade.
