From BBN staff: This week, the Department of Local Government and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center (CCCCC) launched an initiative to engage municipal bodies, both town and city councils, on a number of climate change issues.

The Municipal Climate Resilience Initiative aims to help municipalities adapt to climate change, protect the environment and make our communities more resilient.

The tour started yesterday with the Belmopan City Council. Stakeholders at the meeting included the ministries of sustainable development and national climate change, economic development and the role of the public-private sector and e-governance.

As Belize continues to experience many of the effects of climate change, including massive erosion, erratic weather patterns and warming marine waters that contribute to the degradation of the barrier reef, the project and others like it that help municipalities to better cope with these effects continue to play an important role.
