LENOIR – As part of a new organizational structure, Caldwell County has promoted Tony Helton to Chief Financial Officer. Prior to his promotion, Helton was Chief Financial Officer and Acting County Director.
“I am happy to take on my new position as it will allow me to continue serving as County Finance Officer while expanding my role and also allowing me to use my management skills,” Helton said.
A Certified Public Accountant, Helton has worked in the County Finance Department for 18 years, serving the past 12 years as Chief Financial Officer. Before joining the county government, he spent eight years working in the private sector, including two years in a CPA firm.
Helton holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Lenoir-Rhyne University and is a certified local government finance officer. He also completed the County Administration Course at the UNC School of Government.
Helton and his wife Christine have been married for almost 20 years. Christine is Chair of the Caldwell Library Board of Trustees and they have four children. Two children graduated from Caldwell County schools and two are currently in high school in Caldwell County.
