A local community revitalization group is delighted to help with housing

The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation will look into 2022 with a focus on its Reaching Home program.

Executive Director Victoria Espey says it is designed to help vulnerable members of the community who are experiencing homelessness.

“We want to see this program continue next year,” Espey said. “So we are looking for funding to help support our Ask Auntie project in Reaching Home. But we have a few fundraisers that we will be announcing in the New Year. As for new projects, we’re just going to continue with the programs we have now, aside from launching the Community Roots Homebuyer Assistance Program. “

She notes that this should be their biggest change for next year. Espey explains how it works.

“He offers this forgivable down payment program to community members who qualify for a traditional mortgage, but are really struggling to save money for the down payment. In today’s environment. , with our economy, it’s hard to save the $ 15,000 you have to buy a house. So we’re happy to support community members in this way. “

She notes that they have enough funds in the first round to provide this to between 20 and 25 families.

“We are really excited to launch this in January,” adds Espey.
