Unlike many islands in the Caribbean, Dominica still remains untainted by the tourism industry, and the majority of travelers visits the island to discover its gorgeous natural sites and ecological appeal. Although the island doesn't see a steady flow of tourists, travelers wishing to visit the island must still provide the necessary paperwork and documentation to gain access to this wonderful natural paradise. PassportsMost travelers are required to present a passport before they will be permitted to enter Dominica, though American and Canadian citizens can alternatively provided proof of citizenship. The following items are acceptable to prove citizenship:
A voter's registration card is not considered an acceptable form of proof of citizenship, and you can always check with your airline to see what forms of identification are acceptable. Also, U.S. citizens should be aware that as of Jan. 1, 2006, the United States will begin implementing a new passport regulation requiring U.S. citizens traveling to the Caribbean to present a valid U.S. passport to re-enter the United States. Along with a passport, travelers must show proof of onward travel or return ticket for stays up to 21 days. Citizens of France can visit Dominica for up to two weeks with a Carte d?Identitie. VisasCitizens of the United States, Canada, the U.K., and other commonwealth countries are not required to obtain a visa to visit Dominica for tourist or business travel for stays up to three weeks. If you're visiting the island for reasons other than business or tourism purposes or plan to visit the island for longer than three weeks, you should contact a Dominica consulate or embassy office.
