Despite the popularity of golf, especially with Caribbean vacationers, not every country in the region has made space for visitors to tee off.
Dominica is one of the islands that lacks in the links department. There are currently no golf courses located on the island, though there have been some reports that plans to construct one are in the works. Many sources believe that it will be on the property of a large resort, though there is nothing official to go by.
No, it is not exactly the same, but Dominica's visitors who need their fix do have one option: a miniature golf course. Or, if you have the time, money, and inclination, you can travel by ferry to nearby Martinique to play 18 holes at the Empress Josephine Golf Course or the Martinique Golf & Country Club. Traveling to Guadeloupe is another option, though this island offers only one course: Golf de St-François.
Does the unavailability of golf courses in Dominica mean you should cancel your plans to visit the island? Not a chance. Dominica is said by many to be the closest incarnation of what life in the Caribbean was like before Columbus discovered the region to the rest of the world. For that reason alone, the island is worth a visit.
Don't let the prospect of no golf in Dominica turn you away. Go, explore the island, soak in the sun, and relax. Who knows, you may just enjoy your time away from the links with the many activities and attractions Dominica offers.
